Welcome to the GCE School Year Learning Institute (SY LI), an “experience” that is more than an “education.”  GCE offers a unique opportunity for families who seek rigorous, non-traditional learning environments.  Families select GCE because we place a premium on customized education and because we teach a practical and relevant curriculum in a value-driven environment. GCE enrolls a maximum of 36 students per grade level, and class size typically ranges from 8 to 12 students.

Guided by our staff, GCE students actively pursue an education that responds to their interests and that deeply connects school and the real-world.  GCE students discover a place where they are encouraged to  learn as much as possible because it feels good to learn, and life is better when you’re engaged in meaningful endeavors.  GCE students participate daily in global struggles and celebrations through current events, research, blogs, and civic engagement.

GCE SY LI students examine a wide-range of culturally relevant topics; instructors individualize teaching methodologies (sometimes it will feel like one-on-one instruction); and the GCE classroom includes the city of Chicago, the world at large, students’ own homes and neighborhoods, and of course, our student-friendly headquarters.
