GCE Awareness Projects stem from the idea that life is a process of becoming, of living into our greater selves so that we can genuinely and compassionately contribute to the world.  Students gather each morning to set the tone and their goals for the day and to check in on what is happening in the world and with each other. Each afternoon, students improve upon their executive functioning skills and practice mindfulness activities to enhance their ability to focus and develop work-life balance. Students and staff also create and participate in weekly team-building exercises. These structures help GCE create a thoughtful, intentional, and conscious community.

  1. Beginning day 1 of Year 1, students are challenged to identify and work through their personal Mission, Vision, Full-Value Contract, Short and Long Term Goals, and Achievement and Celebration Plans.  The “Congressional Award” ties together these various attributes and positions GCE students for national recognition while pursuing their personal interests.
  2. Capstone Project/Senior Thesis is a significant component of each GCE student’s fourth year. This is the student’s chance to deeply explore an academic interest, to make sense of life up to this point, and to prepare for a practical and substantive transition to the next phase. Students begin their projects by proposing Guiding Questions and building their advisory team which consists of one GCE instructor, one subject expert/professional, and one GCE peer.
